Entrance To Turkey With Car (Motorist Rules)
General:
Those who wish to enter the country with their vans, minibuses, automobiles, station wagons, bicycles, motorcycles, motorbikes, sidecars, buses, motor coaches, trailers, caravans or other transport vehicles, will have to provide the following documentation:
- Passport.
- International driving license.
- Car registration document (document where all details to the car and the owner's name are registered). If it is somebody else's vehicle a power of attorney should be provided.
- International green card ( insurance card ). The TR sign should be visible.
- Transit book "Carnet de passage" ( for those who want to proceed to the Middle East)
Period :The vehicle can be brought into Turkey for up to 6 months. The owner should declare on the opposite form, the date of departure at the border gate and should absolutely leave the country at the date declared. If for any important reason the staying period has to be extended, it is necessary to apply to;

before the end of the period declared.
In Case of Accident :The accident should be reported to the police or gendarme. That report has to be certified by the nearest local authority. The owner should apply to the customs authority with his passport and report.
If the vehicle can be repaired, it is necessary to inform the customs authority first and than take the vehicle to a garage.If the vehicle is not repairable and if the owner wishes to leave the country without his vehicle, he has to deliver it to the nearest customs office, and the registration of his vehicle on his passport will be cancelled. (Only after the cancellation can the owner of the vehicle leave the country.)

D) CurrencyThe Importation of Turkish pounds is unrestricted but it is recommended that they be declared in order to facilitate reexportation. Turkish pounds may be exported up to an exchange value of US$5000 or the amount declared on entry.
The amount of foreign currency which can be imported is unrestricted, but declaration is compulsory. Exportation is authorized up to an exchange value of US$5000 of the amount declared on entering the country.
GOODS TRANSPORTAuthorization system
Unless otherwise provided for by bilateral agreement, goods transported to or from or in transit through Turkey is subject to authorization.

For the driver, the following documents are required:
- passport or identity card (see above);
- national or international driving license.
For the vehicle, the following documents are required:
- green International insurance card (also covering Turkish territory situated in Asia). Third party risk insurance is available at the Turkish border.
For the goods, the following documents are required:
- TIR carnet;
- CMR consignment note.

Exceptional loadsThe Ministry of Public Works in Ankara may issue special authorizations for vehicles exceeding the maximum permitted weights and dimensions, providing there is no alternative to transport by road.
If effecting the complete transport operation by road is unavoidable, authorization must be obtained for each vehicle indicating the route and the conditions of transportation. Each permit will be valid for a limited period.
If transportation is not continuous, authorization must be obtained for each transport operation.
The transport police must be informed of each authorization granted as well as its conditions, as it is their responsibility to check that the transport operation is carried out according to the conditions laid down in that authorization.

Fiscal ChargesA) Transit tax
The transport by road of goods in transit through Turkey is taxed as follows:
1. vehicles registered in countries which have concluded a bilateral agreement
- DM 0,02 per tonne of GVW/km;
- DM 0,01 per vehicle/krn for empty vehicles
(net weight).2. vehicles registered in countries which have not concluded a bilateral agreement
- the above amounts are multiplied by 2.
B) Fees for excess weightFor vehicles whose total weight exceeds the MPW, a special authorization must be obtained from the representatives of the National Road Administration at the border crossing point. The following tax is also levied:
